Cat Kennel Technician Volunteer

 

Importance of Position: To keep cats comfortable and give them a healthy and safe environment.

Qualifications: 18 years old.   Willingness to get dirty.  Past and/or present cat ownership desired.  Must have patience with scared, overactive and inquisitive felines.  Must be able to handle 5-8 felines in one kennel. 

Responsible to: Volunteer coordinator and kennel technician trainer.

Responsibilities:

Clean and sanitize kennels as directed and trained.

Feeding and watering the cats/kittens as trained. 

Washing, sanitizing, drying and storing kennel dishes and your hands as trained.

Replace bedding materials as needed.

Look for signs of distress/illness in the animals.

Training Provided: Trained volunteers/personnel will give a minimum of 2 hours of training.  Training will consist of both verbal and hands on training.  Upon completion of training the trainee will be responsible for following up and asking questions. 

After completion of training the trainer will watch the trainee complete a minimum of 2 more "hands on" sessions before leaving trainee to work on his or her own.

A list of phone numbers will be provided to the trainee in the event of questions or concerns after the training has been completed.

Benefits of Volunteering: Giving abandoned animals (felines) a comfortable, safe and healthy environment to live in until they find a new loving home and family. 

Commitment: Minimum of 2 hours per week. 

Available timeslots: Sunday through Saturday

 8AM-10AM

4 PM – 6 PM

** FMAR is very serious about creating and keeping a positive volunteer program.  We ask that you give 24-hour notice if you can't make your designated volunteer times and dates.  We also ask that you commit to your volunteer dates and times for a minimum 6-month period.  Thank you so much for your support and commitment to our mission and goals.

Dog Kennel Technician Volunteer

Dog Training Volunteer

Importance of Position: To teach canines how to walk comfortably on a leash.  To give dogs basic training in sit, down, stay and off commands so they will become more desirable for prospective adopting families.

Qualifications: 18 years old.   Willingness to get dirty.  Past and/or present dog ownership desired.  Must have patience with over active canines.  Must be able to handle large and/or untrained canines. 

Responsible to: Volunteer coordinator and chosen FMAR dog trainer.

Responsibilities:

Remove dog from kennel with the least distress to other canines.

Provide an ample supply of water before, during, and after training. 

Positive rewarding of good behavior.

Socialization of the canines, including brushing and fun time.

Look for signs of distress/illness in the animals.

Training Provided: Trained volunteers/personnel will give a minimum of 1 hour of training.  Training will consist of both verbal and hands on training.  Upon completion of training the trainee will be responsible for following up and asking questions. 

After completion of training the trainer will watch the trainee complete a minimum of 2 more "hands on" sessions before leaving trainee to work on his or her own.

A list of phone numbers will be provided to the trainee in the event of questions or concerns after the training has been completed.
